Just heard our local airport is considering disposing of their NDBs. Apparently this is a worldwide trend, anyone got anyone views or opinions on why this is happening ??

Speaking as a pilot, they are horrible and outdated things to use, much less user-friendly than VOR/DME. However, ICAO in their wisdom still require the receiver for certain types of flying.

I suspect that once the use and availability of an ADF ceases to become mandatory under ICAO rules, we'll see the end of the NDB pretty quickly, and frankly it'll be no great loss in these days of GPS.
