Hello all!

I have heard (over from airliners.net) that Virgin Atlantic was denied rights to fly to Saudi Arabia because of the woman sported below the cockpit windows.

So, what are your views?

cheers:ok:

Well if thats the case, then its their loss.

With BA pulling out shortly, they can soon enjoy paying overinflated prices for their tickets.

Probably true.......Sounds just like them.
It is so moronic that it borders on comedy.
Ignorance is the mother of all fu#* ups.

Perhaps if you painted a mask over her face and only allowed her eyes to show, painted on an Abaya then they would allow it.
Didn't Swiss Air have a problem in KSA a few years ago with their emblem on the tail?
Satellite dishes were also forbidden until a few years back.
Yet every roof has one now, all pointed towards Hotbird.
I am sure the porn is not viewed on Multivision either.
Which is much worse than the Virgin aircraft.

"Perhaps if you painted a mask over her face and only allowed her eyes to show, painted on an Abaya then they would allow it."

Yes, but then you will get others saying that by drawing a woman on the body of the aircraft you are degrading the staus of a women...they do have a point when you think of it.

Lets all not forget that it's a very different culture down there and we must keep an open mind.

Guy Brush, Quote,
By painting these women on the aircraft they would be degrading their status.
How much lower can they go?
Women are degraded here to the maximum allowed by law.
Maybe an upgrade in their status.
What status do they have now?
Even the women here are starting to rebel by driving etc.
I hope this changes for them soon as they are tired of this also.
As far as this degrading their status I find this hard to accept.
Nothing to do with religion.
A very indeed cultural problem.
I ask an customs man at the airport why does he take my magazines, Popular Mechanics etc. and totally use a majik marker to black out all the womens pictures. Making all articles on both pages unreadable.
I was told that some small innocent boy may see this and try to kiss the picture.
They have a long way to go.

If VS have been denied access the Grinning Pullover may not be best pleased but the crew have had a lucky escape.
The degrading way in which western crew - especially females - are treated by the XXXXXXX is often beyond belief. The Saudis have yet to enter the 20th century in this regard let alone the 21st.

Inflammatory language removed. 4HP

Gents, I have a question.
If the Saudi PCA really turned down Virgins attempt to take over BA's routes, then what about reciprocity?????
For whatever reason they have......
The the British CAA can cancel Saudia's routes to the UK.
Am I wrong?

What makes you think that Virgin actually applied for the routes?

"Airliners.Net" isnt the most reliable source!

And spitting at the crews isn't at all degrading I suppose? :(

cargosales,

I really don't understand what you mean? Why would anyone want to do anything like that. Unless of course you that is a new expression I have not heard before.

OK, so my post above isn't exactly clear.

Spit: the act of spitting (forcefully expelling saliva from the mouth)

Crews who go to Saudi are spat at by some of the less enlightened natives of that country. And worse. Inside the hotels they have to barricade themselves in.

Personally I consider this to be extremely degrading to the people being spat at.

SQawk77 has it absolutely spot on in saying the crews have had a lucky escape.

Seems that BMI will be flying it instead.

BMI will be flying it instead

Interesting decision, but ludicrous with an A330.

cargosales....

And worse. Inside the hotels they have to barricade themselves in.

Slight exaggeration?

" OUR WOMEN ARE ALONE AT HOME AND THEY ARE WATCHING ALL THESE INDIAN GIRLS DANCE I THE RAIN " :{

Mutt,

The 'worse' or the 'barricades' ?

Don't think so - heard some horror stories from mates who've been there.

Reckon you're right about the 330 though.

With the recent warnings from the US Consulate due to recent threats and the moving of Americans off certain componds due to security reasons I am sure this is not good news for the BMI crews.
You need to maintain a hightened level of vigilance here in KSA.
If you feel that the hotel security is not up to standards let your airline know about it. Refuse to stay there!
We just recieved this updated warning 3 days ago.
So far they have been really close to being correct.
Every time one of these came out something serious happened.
Lets all hope they are wrong this time!

Left Wing,
I am a little surprised that they are referring to their wives/sisters/mothers and not themselves. It is usually the men who are attracted to these things. However, I can still understand their disappointment. Many still disapprove of such channels, whether they are Islamic fundamentalists or liberals, the most open minded of them and the most narrow, many many are still against such things across the whole region.

Anyway back to the main topic, can any one shed more light on the bmi services?

Earl, I see that we are now protected by painted broom handles and fake helmets...... oh boy, i feel soooo secure :(

As for Virgin not taking the route, I'm glad to see that they have sense! It will be interesting to see how long BMI last on the RUH route :)

I dont want to post about vulnerability's in the security here.
But this is really disgusting.
Next thing we will see is fake props designed to look like security manning the guns.
At a heightened state of security with 3 warnings from the US Consulate in one week you would expect better.
I know they are trying to cut cost but this is insane.
But then again you have to look at the root of the problem.
Not talking about religion either.
We were all taught as children to not believe anything you hear, nothing you read and only half of what you see.
If that holds true we are in for some problems. serious ones.

Why not???? If we dont talk about it or complain about it, then some bright spark is going to think that he has done the right thing!

They really need to employ British servicemen who served in Northern Ireland....... Then i might feel safe....

Either way the BMI crews won't feel safe here.
