EXTENDS ARGYLE DIAMONDS CONTRACT, SERVICES KUNUNURRA

SKYWEST Airlines is pleased to announce the extension of the Argyle jet service contract. The route will be undertaken by Skywest's full service, extended leg room, Fokker 100 jet aircraft. Commencing in April 2005, Skywest will fly into Kununurra and return to Perth twice a week, on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. It will operate all year round, supporting the development of tourism in the Kimberley region and providing a valuable link for the community of the area.

The new service is available as a result of the continuing regional partnership between Skywest and an icon of Western Australia, Argyle Diamonds Skywest has provided charter services to Argyle's East Kimberley mine since November 2002.

Argyle Diamonds Managing Director Brendan Hammond said that a key feature of the Argyle business is to understand what capacity there is to 'make a difference', particularly to the local and regional areas, and integrate this into operational decision making.

"We are working very hard to ensure that a growing range of Argyle linked opportunities are available to the East Kimberley, including for example those with apprentices and trainees; power and fuel supplies; accelerated education programmes; art business development; and community health projects", said Mr Hammond.

"Argyle is delighted to cooperate in extending the Skywest contract and enable the new Kununurra route to be established. This is a great outcome from what in 2002 was a deliberate decision to involve Argyle with Skywest, in the hope of offering further independent airline capacity to regional Western Australia", he said.

Skywest Chief Operating Officer Johanna Ramsay said that she was grateful for the leadership in community support displayed by Argyle Diamonds. The commitment of Argyle to this partnership is another example of its regional business and community development efforts. Ms Ramsay estimates the additional revenue generated by this service to be approximately $4.9 million per annum which to a material extent is underwritten by the extension of the Argyle Diamonds contract.

The share price is still flat at 0.17c. No news about plans that the new Singapore owners may have?

Smart timing by Skywest.

They would have been watching over their shoulders at National Jet, who came a close second for the contract in Nov 2002.

NJS in Perth also regards itself as West Australian, and sees resource industry charter as its turf.

But NJS is being held back by its success in winning the continued QFLink work in the 717. It will take the rest of 2005 for NJS to get around 80 pilots and a couple of hundred FA's up and running on the boeing, and some fast moving to get some new 146 crews into the 146's that will have their tails painted blue very soon.

(Also, had NJS lost the qf work, Skywest would have had a very hungry and very capable competitor going for any work like this to stay in the game.)

Probably not so smart of Argyle Diamonds to commit now... you always get a better price when the contractors are competing against each other.

But then again, we do business differently here in The West..... ;)
