Aircraft stolen from Wonderboom Airport

February 21, 2005, 11:45

An aircraft has been reported stolen at the Wonderboom Airport, north of Pretoria. The incident apparently happened at the weekend.

Andre le Roux, an airport spokesperson, says on arrival this morning the eight-seater Cessna 402-B and its log books could not be found. Le Roux says he is concerned because the aircraft was being structurally modified.

"We immediately after we discovered that the aircraft was gone reported the matter to the South African Police Service and the South African Aviation Authority. This is a very serious matter. This aircraft was undergoing serious structure modifications," he says.

This is the third incident of an aircraft going missing at the airport.

Pretoria - An aircraft reported stolen from the Wonderboom Airport, north of Pretoria, has been found the airport said on Monday.

"The so-called missing aircraft never left the airport," said airport manager Peet van Rensburg.

The aircraft, which was in for repairs, was found on the premises of a maintenance company at the airport, van Rensburg said.

"Andre le Roux had reported his private aircraft missing this morning from a hangar at Wonderboom Airport," police spokesperson Percy Morokane said.

Le Roux said he had last seen the eight-seater Cessna 402-B when he locked it up in a hangar on Saturday, police said.

The aircraft's log-books were also missing.

Police said the last time a plane had been stolen from the airport was in 2001 and the culprit had been caught.

The Wonderboom Airport has four runways and is situated about 15km north of Pretoria.

It serves mainly the recreational flying market and the handling of smaller aircraft.

Wonderboom is not so big that you could hide a C402. Maybe the chap in question should have a few less castles before going to look for the aircraft. And this joke made news........
We should thank them for amusing us!!
