Cintra confirms AeroMexico, Mexicana to be sold separately
Dateline: Monday February 14, 2005

Cintra on Friday told the Mexican stock exchange that it intends to sell Mexicana and AeroMexico separately, confirming an earlier announcement (ATWOnline, Feb. 10).

Mexicana, the country's largest international airline, as well as "a new low-cost carrier concept" will be sold as Grupo Mexicana de Aviacion. AeroMexico, the largest domestic airline and Regional Aerolitoral are in the Grupo Aerovias de Mexico. The final offering contains SEAT (Servicios de Apoyo en Tierra), the ground handling and support services company.
Responding to the announcement, American Airlines said it hopes to continue its codeshare with Mexicana after the carrier is sold. The two began codesharing and reciprocal frequent flier club participation last spring.

"American stands ready to work closely with Mexicana's current and future owners to expand our relationship for the benefit of the flying public and our two great airlines," AA Senior VP-Miami, Caribbean and Latin America Peter Dolara said in a statement.--Loren Farrar
