I am 16 yrs young. i am thinking about joing the AAC, I have read all the brochures and whatnot. I just have one question;

If you are in any of the armed forces, how many hours do you personally fly in a week.

Would love to know which F3 squadron you work on which gets those many hours per week.
Although, you are about right on the Q hours!!!

Why do you fly so little? The Merlins in Oxfordshire are flying all the time!!!!!

You maybe wont get the most flying hours in the world throughout any of the three services compared to civvie street but I can guarantee you it is the best flying you will ever do!

If you join and don't agree simply leave and go to the airlines...it's as easy as that.

Indeed true - they were having a great time today flying under the HV cables between Cholsey and South Moreton. A new batch into OCU, I'm reliably told.

I once did 3 static line jumps from a Chinook before breakfast, does that count?

I was often asked how many hours I had on Maritime and would casually reply - "15000" to gasps of - "Wow! that's a lot"

"Yes" I would say - "9000 on Nimrod and 6000 waiting for MT"

Personal flying rate is dictated by currency - presently 30 hours per quarter - some weeks nothing - ie. Block leave

Not unusual to pick up 2 x SAR sorties plus a couple of Ops sorties (usually over the weekend) and you've suddenly got 32 hours under your belt.

Loved many, Trusted a few, Always paddled my own canoe!

AAC?

Weekly: 5 average, 10 Busy
maybe 15 if on exersice, pretty low really.
Chaps topping out at the end of their Army carrers (22yrs) with 2000/3000 hours- so judge from that.

Ok, ok, I miss read the question (third post on thread)

Clearly I meant PER MONTH.

ICCARUS- 'the better one'.

Had any more panic attacks and rtbs from the tanker join recently?

SAR pilot on seakings, (RAF)

four hours per shift training plus anything you get on a job after that... (When the aircraft is working of course)

Works out about 20 - 40 hours a month.

Fair one RAYTOFCLIMB, good banter although technically not within the 5sec rule.

Don't worry about not reading the post correctly-- guess you couldn't fully see the computer screen, what past that huge nose!!!!!:O

Raw hours aint everything. You don't just jump in the jet or strap a cab on.

What's normal now? Pitch up? Brief, walk, checks, airborne, land, tech debrief, flight debrief, eat and possibly start again?

Work 8 hours fly 2 hours?

I would hope that it's a damn sight higher than 8:2 or else an average F3 pilot is getting paid best part of £45Kpa for 80 hrs work per month. ;)

Whilst we seem so be straying onto the "how much do I get paid thread" I find it interesting that most of you are claiming to be in or around the 45k bracket.

In the crewroom last week a young aviator was discussing the "working tax credit" and how he was claiming benefits as he was being paid less than 50k.

Is anyone else claiming benefits like this?

opso
15th Feb 2005, 18:40
Yes, those of us with a household income of less than 50K can make a claim. As I no longer receive flying pay and my other half is too busy shopping to go out to earn anything, I'm easily in that bracket. :{ To add insult to injury, it appears that I'm working almost as many hrs per week as an F3 pilot does per month! And before you say it - I did work hard at school! To the point that I got flying pay for 10 years.
