Just looking at things, and wonder if I need to drain the oil before getting at the filter??What are people using to prefilter the oil??
I guess I can expect the engine oil and fuel to run everywhere as well??
Thanks

Hmmm...if you're qualified to do this, shouldn't you know?

What kind of helicopter are you talking about? Does the system incorporate an accumulator? An accumulator in the system and possibly accumulators in the primary servos such as those on an Aerospatial product. If there is an accumulator or accumulators you will have to dissipate the system pressure by displacing the primary flight controls before opening the system to remove a filter.

If the system is powered by a constant pressure variable displacement pump there is a good chance that there is no accumulator in the system.

Some helicopters are equipped with a filtration system that is employed when filling the system. It takes the oil directly from the can and passes it through the pre-filter and into the system. Most helicopters have a differential pressure indicator on the filter body that has a pin that will extend when the filter is plugged

Of course this advice is based on what I learned many years ago.
