Thing's must be looking up.

CX announces 7 additional aircraft orders.

3 x A340-600
3 x A340-300
1 x A330-300

The time scale for delivery is the -600's in 2002 & 2003 and the A340-300's in June, July and Sept 2001 (leased from Boeing) and one A330-300 bought direct from Airbus coming in Nov 2001.

The 3 being leased from Boeing are to replace the Air China leases as they return. The leases of the -600's are for 5 years through ILFC. All these aircraft are in addition to the 10 aircraft coming in 2001. (7 x A330-300, 1 x A340-300 and 2 x B747-400F)

The company is still considering A/C orders beyond 2002 according to the item on the company computer.

As an extra we have also announced the purchase of a Learjet 45 for S/O to JFO upgrades and also for SFO to CMDR courses. The Lear will be operated by BAE at Parafield in ADL Australia. (I can just imagine the back stabbing going on at parafield as I write this!) There is also an additional option for a second L45.

So, it's a start. Lets hope management want to enter into an era of co-operation with the pilots that will fly these A/C!

Great news indeed, not least because it signals the departure of the ex Air China machines - not CX's finest hour. The three aircraft leased from Boeing will be ex SIA and suitably kitted out.

One small point, AP reports that the fourth A340 is in fact an A330-300 being purchased for delivery this year. Anyone able to confirm?

WOW - CX orders more A/C, but who will fly them? And CX will order three 340-600's to do the direct NYC route, but these A/C will not be here till 2002-03 and Continentals fist flight arrives tomorrow - how much further behind can this management get - IDIOTS - go sick now and make them feel the pain

There's nothing heroic about going sick, "hero".

....there's nothing heroic in doing nothing to stand up to a corrupt, abusive and incompetent managment either.....(and as there is very little labour protection in HK...tactical sickness is the only effective weapon we have) Bring on the end of March....

These orders are not new to the industry as they were mentioned back in November last year. They have only been announced now to the public for accounting reasons. The 340-300’s are part of the infamous sale of SQ’s 340-300’s to Boeing in return for more 777-200’s 81 in total.

You are quite correct about the -600's Wally but there is nothing like the company telling us as opposed to flight International. Now about the next lot of orders....
