Believe MK has had it's traffic rights into USA & Canada suspended.
Also it's financial backers have pulled out.
New money has come from VIM airlines of Domodedovo.
Anybody else have any information on this rumour.

Heard nothing about it, hovewer the financial backers of VIM Avia can easily afford it for sure...

All Ghanain registered aircraft suspended from US ops as a result of tech log snag indiscretion on the part of Ghana Airways ...
new Eastern bloc money confirmed and apparently good clean reputation in the west ...

Indeed, MK Airlines have secured new backing but not from an avaition company.

Rumour is that MK are currently looking to register their B747's on the UK Register and are also earnestly trying to recruit European crews.

I realise some of you will not believe this possible, but I have heard it from at least 3 different MK personnel.

:ouch:

You're right dionysius, I just had an offer from them, based in LUX or Belgium. The first salary they showed was within European standards, but now they changed and offer a generous 3000 Euros/month+per diem for a captain. With their reputation and the low salaries, they're having trouble finding drivers......

3MTA3 - "their reputation" inference being hull loss track record or poor treatment of aircrew ???.

I can also confirm they are urgently seeking JAR licensed crews. I suspect they will have to pay a premium over the highest freighter salary to attract the kind of expertise they need to lay the ghosts of their past.

Nuff said

I'm second to that.. JAR-licenced crew will cost MK probably more than it cost to CV or AF... Not familiar with current situation on 747 drivers market, but we are struggling to get JAR-licenced A320 crews now for anything what sounds reasonable.

Coleman, I was making reference to their high accident/incident rate and the way they treat pilots (which is linked I beleive)
Cargo One, check your PM ;)

MK treat their pilots fairly well, although they travel economy on commercial flights they get 5 * accomodation. And its not as if they are being paid badly (senior B747-200 captain 80 hours in one month $13,000 take home).

If the rumour is true they want to go on British Registrations then they will have to buck their ideas up on the engineering front.

dionysius

crews will be happy if they get jars licence, as they will then be a more attractive option to proper airlines, just watch the exodus

;)

heard that an MK 747 had a reverser problem in mid east airport recently and had to use 2 bottles to put out fire as he tried to relight engine, subsequently a/c grounded and had to be overhauled by emirates engineering at great cost !!!
can anyone substansiate this ??

Looks like they're just getting towed back from the run-up area after testing either 2,3 or 4 and the fancase on 1 is in the process of being replaced. The damage on the pylon looks from this angle to just be the fwd fixed fairing removed...

3MTA3 - thanks for your clarification - just got back from action and saw it. I don't think MK are proud of their history and at least some action has been taken to break the pattern by looking at JAR ops etc. Everyone forgets that if they are put out of operation, there is just more of us without jobs. I think MK crews often elect to push themselves, especially the more senior crew, who have been there since the early days.

I saw that MK is to start flights to Uganda, China, US and London?

Doe's anyone know anymore?

So how much are they offering for Captains? This thread shows a range from 3000 Euros a month (US$ 3,900) to US$ 13,000. That's quite a difference. Who is the more correct?

Does no-one know how much an MK Captain earns?

deeceethree
26th Apr 2005, 19:43
I don't know much about the detail but I understand that FOs and Capts earn a very basic salary which is then topped up - the more flying you do the more you earn.

Not seen too much of MK's DC8's around the routes, is there a problem ?? or have I just been in the wrong places .

Undercarriage was turned nearly 90deg out of shape....!!!!

Does anyone have any more details of the earlier report of undercarriage damage to an MK DC8 at Wiltshire airport?

dionysius
10th Jul 2005, 15:04
Old news, happened about a year ago taxying full to line up, one side of the undercarriage gave way, believe it blocked lyneham for a day or so, and to make matters worse, the replacement frame blew a couple of tyres on landing !!!

Coleman Myers,

As you presuambly work for MK, perhaps you would be kind enough to answer some of the genuine questions asked in this thread?

How much do MK crews earn?
Are they recruiting?
What's the roster like?
What are they like to work for?
and finally, do they still intend to obtain a UK AOC and if so how is that progressing?

Thanks!

I worked for MK (in crewing not as crew) for 4 years and I have to say they are all the nicest guys you would ever meet!

When I was there they were treated exceptionally well, but now I think generally they are treated ok, they stay in some of the top hotels, yeah had crappy economy flights but sometimes they are lucky enough to get business/first class, can't say anything about the salary think it is pretty good, the guys seem to live pretty well, overall I never had any complaints.....but just ask yourself why are alot of the guys leaving now, I have stayed in touch with a number of the guys and find out all the time who is leaving, some of the guys I thought would be with mk forever have gone.....why??!!

I think I may have worked with you at your time at MK, you wouldn't have locked horns with Diggers at all would you??

Shame some of the good guys have left.

Cheers

This week I have noticed in one of the industry magazines (was it Airline Cargo Management?) that Keith Riches became MK's Engineering Manager (or Director?).
So if he is the same Keith Riches who works (or worked?) at UK CAA Safety Regulation Group as one of senior maintenance inspectors/regulators then it sounds like a move towards UK AOC...

Hot off the press @ yahoo.news

"Report: Gazprom Agrees to Buy Sibneft

MOSCOW - The world's biggest natural-gas producer, Gazprom, has agreed to purchase the Sibneft oil company for $13.01 billion, the Interfax news agency reported Wednesday. The reported deal would significantly further Gazprom's stature in the oil sector as President Vladimir Putin's Kremlin moves to recapture state influence in the lucrative energy industry."

A backer with that kind of ammo is probably very reassuring for MKA boys (and girls !) :8
