The writing has been on the wall for a while now and the rumours are coming true. Perth Long haul is to be cut down to a mini base of only 90 crew.

SH will be doing HKG and SIN as of 21st March and very likely NRT later on, all part of the regional (Airbus) agreement.

All LH crew will be called over the next few days and asked if they want to transfer to Sydney or Melbourne bases. Crew wanting to stay in Perth will be doing the 747 shuttles to SIN only.

Looks like it's just a matter of time until the company has more casual resources in SH that they'll be doing all the regional flying.

The final 90 LH crew will probably be given the option to transfer to SH or to another base later on down the track.

If the 747 flying continues out of Perth this could easily be covered by the other bases once again.

Perth will be soon be neither a LH or SH base but known as "Regional".

Would like to here from any Perth LH crew that are having to make this decision on their future ??????

I would imagine this would make a lot of Perth LH crew very happy considering the number of LH crew on the transfer list trying to get out of that base and for some time I might add.

I certainly hope the new Perth “regional” base will not contain even more casuals. It already concerns permanent crew that the casual to permanent ratio is much higher then what it actually should be and I feel there needs to be more stability given to long serving casual crew through the opportunity to move into permanent positions.

Have heard that there is approximately 10-20 Perth long haul crew going to be transferring to Perth short haul soon. Does anyone know anything about this?

Phone calls from Allocations to those on transfer lists started yesterday.

Econ FA's: No option given as to base, SYD only :ugh:.

B First: No option given either, MEL only.

All transfers to be completed for BP237. Imagine pulling your kids out of school, or hubby out of work, relocating them with stuff all notice. Nice one QF!!!!

Sure there have been a few on the transfer lists but some of these have been keeping their options open for this long awaited time. Not all are happy to go though as most people love working out of this base. Great crews creating fantastic service (and with a smile :) ), few hassles from local mgmt, a wonderful place to live for family's and the list goes on.

Unfortunatley now this base will, in time, become fully "Regional". In the meantime LH crew will be left flying to Singapore only on lowline rosters (ie: no life) and allowances that will only just feed the cat.

Those LH crew wishing to stay will be forced to transfer to SH and accept lesser conditions for what will still be LH flying. That is of course, after Geoff moves all those with expiring contracts on the East Coast over to Perth SH if they wish to remain working for the mighty Rat. :yuk:

Yep great base and shame they have not given it the alternative longer flying as the crews are generally very good. Morale has changed big time in the last 18 months. They achieve their KPI's, collect the bonus and bugger off to skim the cream on another business. To the remaining crew there, good luck and we'll see you in singa's. At least you dont have to deal with jet lag and live in the healthiest city in Oz(saw it in Mens health mag).Perth is No 1.
Adios.

Is anyone being offered money to leave or are they just shunting crew around? What is happening to the ground staff established to manage and run a large crew base?

Basically they are offering voluntary transfers and as far as ground managers, they would manage the growing short haul crew base.
