First Choice interview

Hi there,

A friend of a friend has two cabin crew interviews one with First Choice (Bristol) and the other with Virgin.
Is there anyone out there who could give her an idea of what sort of format her interviews might take?
Her chances of a permanant position at the end of the season with First choice.
Terms and conditions?
How long her training courses would be and where they would be?

The first choice starts of with a simple test/exam.

Its then onto a pile of role playing stuff normally with 9 other people. If you make it through that I believe you are then onto a one on one type thing!!!!

Although I used to work for FCUK (when air2bob), I would recommend to go for Virgin if you/your friend have/has the choice. FCUK in Bristol is a small base and the 767 do not fly from there therefore it's no good for long-haul. Finally, working for a charter airline is really hard work! The money is not that great either and nightstops are seldom.

VA is probabily a better option if you/she wish/es to travel as you get to stay 36h/72h (sometimes longer) overseas. VA's contract is PERMANENT which is a very important thing nowaday!

Charter contracts are often seasonal or temporary and only a few people(depending on the winter business) receive permanent contract at the end of the season, which generates bad competition amongst new employees (not all, thanks God!).

If money is a major, then keep looking around as there are better contracts available, to mention a few: BA or Qantas UK.
Don't get too scared when checking the basic salary as allowances are usually a very big portion of the salary and they are very difficult to evaluate until you're working.

I have worked for both Inclusive tour and scheduled airlines and am therefore able to advise my friend on the pro's and cons of the different types of airlines so she isn't without help on that score.
Her ultimate goal is to work on private aircraft, which I have about 14 year’s experience of myself. Yup I have been about a bit!
If she had a choice I would say go for scheduled airlines (better possible first class experience and for your CV if your goal is to work on private aircraft) although BA's basic salary is poor I know their allowances are good but I don't know about Virgin,
JAL or Quantas.
She has applied to BA but heard nothing as yet.
If she is offered a position with First Choice only then I would say go for it as it is all valuable experience and you can always move on to scheduled airlines later. (That's the route I took)
There doesn't seem to be much help on this forum ref. First Choice though.
I must say I wish I was her starting out. I've had a fab career in this business and envy her starting her new career.

I worked last season for First Choice and am going back this season. I had a blast working with them and although I did short haul, it was great craic! I've worked for two other airlines and FCA was by far the best. Also, if your friend wants long haul, after her first season, if she would be willing to move from BRS, she could transfer to MAN or LGW and do it from there. With regards to working on a private aircraft, after a few years with FCA you can opt to do VIP flights which is great on the CV! Hope this helps. Oh yeah, I think the money is good with FCA.

It's great to hear someone enjoying working for a company so much. Could you please give me any idea of my friends chances of a permanant job with FC (at the end of the season) or does a snowballs chance in hell come to mind?
Also what sort of terms and conditions will she be offered?
Annnnnnnd last but not least, how long would her training course be and where would that take place?

Hi Dumbledor, sorry for the late response. Chances of getting a permanent job after the first season, especially at BRS, are very very slim unfortunately. Not sure about the terms and conditions, it seems to differ each year. Usually six month contract, basic salary, commission, etc, etc. And the training course is roughly four weeks (paid), then your two super num flights. Hope this'll help.
