Just found this in News 24....slightly interesting way of " saving " money,

"Johannesburg - SA Airways is offering voluntary severance packages to its 602 managers as part of its effort to turn the business around, the company announced in Johannesburg on Friday.

CE Khaya Ngqula announced this at a press conference at Johannesburg International Airport on Friday, 100 days after taking office at the troubled national carrier.

Management staff will be offered three weeks' pay for every year served, he said.

"We need to save R1.6bn in the next 18 months.

"To do this, we need to realign departments, and stop duplication across the board.

"Packages will be designed to mostly benefit people wanting career changes or to start their own businesses, he said.

Ngqula added that "head hunting" would also take place.

He said no retrenchments were planned for the meantime, but emphasised that the variables of exchange rates and oil prices were beyond control.

Managers would have two weeks to decide whether to accept this offer so that by March 1, SAA can start wth a new structure.

If half of the managers accept the offer this would make SAA comparable with its competitors scuh as Cathay Pacific or Singapore Airlines"

hehehehe.....comparible with Cathay and Singapore.....heheheheh....hehehehehe.......reminds me of whats happening at Denel...out with the old......in with the new....

Wonder who's gonna take over the empty seats on the gravy train now??
