View Full Version : New American Airlines Contract Terms.....!

The Resistance
30th Jan 2001, 10:50
Gentlemen, just thought you would like to see the payrates that are being proposed for the new American Airlines contract. Funny how an airline in the most competitive market place can afford to pay it's 15000 (yes, fifteen thousand..!) pilots these salaries and associated benefits (ie: retirement packages worth on average 4 million USD...!). For information purposes, the 'annual salary' is calculated by multiplying the hourly rate X 1000hrs/yr (actual and credit). The hourly rates shown under each aircraft types represent, in order of listing: 1. present hourly rate 2. hourly rate on 05.01.00 3. hourly rate on 05.01.01 4. hourly rate on 05.01.02 4. overall increase! Wonder when we are going to take action to be treated equally....? Enjoy....... :)

....so, a 737 Captain earns the same salary as one of our A-scale B747-400 Captains....! Good grief, when are we going to force this management to compensate us based on the pay and benefits that are represented by airlines in the countries from where we originate from? We are being scr-wed out of our careers and rightful earnings. What a joke this airline is. How many of us think we are worth more....? Just wondering. When you have answered that question, perhaps we can all resolve to give the AOA a mandate to proceed with industrial action, up to and inlcuding the dreaded 'S' word. Nothing short of serious and committed action will result in a proper contract and working conditions. Just ask yourselves if you are willing to waste your whole career as a 'low rent' pilot, or are you worth the same as the 15000 AA pilots will shortly be earning (not to mention the lucrative and guaranteed pension benefits..!). Let's wake up people, because we are being managed by people who are happy to see you struggle for the next 25 years of your career, and then have less than a pot to p-ss in when you retire. Let's take back control of our lives from these pathetic management cretins. Remember, if you risk nothing, stand for nothing, push for nothing....that is exactly what you will get out of your career.

The Resistance, you mean Delta right?
Don't want to bash on a good post, but the contract is for Delta (AA has no 1011 or 767-400 or 737-200s)

But the message of the post and these new contracts at US carriers, they are getting rid of B-Scales (and that is a B-scale that you spent 5 years on ONLY, not the for life B-Scale at CX). Proper pensions, good health plans for you and family, Free staff travel (at UA and with 5 yrs longetivity at AA), Jumpseat, and loads more...

They have got this far by sticking together.

Just a little tidbit of info for you. Currently AA does not have 15,000 pilots, that will only happen if the proposed buyout of TWA goes through. In that deal they will acquire some of USAirways aircraft as well. Plus as someone stated above AA has no 737's or L-1011's. Delta has both but are phasing out the last of the L-1011's in the next year or so to my knowledge. Just my 1 1/2 cents worth.

Absolut, Dash,.....you are of course correct. They are the Delta numbers. I believe the correct number of crew is presently approx 12500, and will be over 15000 when the USAir deal is done. Needless to say, the numbers quoted are representative of nearly ALL the US majors (or soon will be....!), and show the appalling lie being told by our managment in regards to the 'market value' of our package. Tony is without doubt the most immoral of a seriously immoral group of managers. Let's ALL start to confer TOGETHER and formulate a plan to bring this degredation of our careers to a halt......unless of course you think you are only worth what you are presently getting....? Call and email the AOA, and tell them that you are READY to take appropriate action....to ensure the restitution of our monetary and lifestyle expectations.

Just wonder how NR will dance his way around the fact that USAB salaries are supposed to be representative of comparable US Airlines (one world partners for instance).
Wait and see who's in the basket of airlines he purports to be using - American Eagle maybe??
Our retirement benefits are a joke compared to 'proper' airlines - make no mistake - NR and KB don't give a toss though as they will be well looked after. For being Company men AT YOUR EXPENSE.

....so let me get this straight. Our A-scale Captains are a) earning less in salary than a Delta 737 Captain. b) work upwards of 30% more hours c) have less than 50% of the pension benefits d) are told by Tyler and Rhodes that they are earning 'industry leading pay and benefits'..!! Give me a break! If this is how poorly the A-scale compares to the leading industry pay and ben. scales, how badly does it show the B-scale to be in comparison? Gentlemen, we are being royally scr-wed. IF WE CONTINUE TO FLY THE AIRCRAFT AS NORMAL, WE WILL NEVER SEE ANYTHING DIFFERENT IN OUR PRESENT CONDITIONS. It is time (well past in my opinion) to resolve to stand up to this tyranny of abject incompetence, and show the management that there is a DEFINITE cost to losing goodwill. CALL THE AOA AND LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU ARE READY AND WILLING TO STAND UP FOR WHAT WE DESERVE. ......A-scalers earning less than 737 captains.....!!!! For Pete's sake!!

What happened to the USAB-contract? It was up July 1, 2000. It was only a ONE year deal.

This Common Jet salary bull****, is to the companys advantage of less conversions between fleets, but when comparing salaries it should be based on the type of equipment we fly.

Get United and we will win, give **** to the guys making deals with the company, it is their fault things are not improving.

Actually, DashDriver, we DO have 737's ( -800's ), brand spanking new, about 45 of them so far and orders in for a couple of hundred.

AA pay ( the current contract comes up for renewal this year ) :

2nd year 737 FO : $ 105 / HR
Capt : $ 187 / hr

plus 11% co. contribution, per diem, etc.

I doubled my CX pay ( before tax ) coming to the US airlines, and halved the size of the A/C and quartered the average sector length.
Just setting the record straight; I'm sure Cx will get the pay up to speed eventually.
Delta and United are about 25% more than AA if their negotiations finalize.

Best wishes to former collegues....

RRaamjet,
I do stand corrected, I was unaware of your new 800's, my apologies. :)

Right on Raamjet. I too left CX as an A scaler...just prior to command. BEST decision of my life. I don't hate going to work any more! Within a couple of years, we will probably get more in perdiem than CX will pay in salary, the way things are going...best wishes to those real CX (not ASL) pilots still there. I hope you guys can get some unity and withstand the continuing degradation of your conditions.
