Question for all UK crew on the board!

Which do you think is the best union for CC in the UK

I am moving from Sydney to London for 2 years as part of the Qantas UK base.

Qantas have told us they have negotiated with the union Amicus for UK based crew to become members with them.

Are Amicus any good at representing crew?

Hope someone can help.

Just 3 days ago i joined Amicus (i completed the form and sent the letter) . A cabin crew friend of mine recomended it to me. Aparently they helped him last year and that help was very useful.

I'm with amicus and pay 9.95 a month. I joined just before European went under. It was worth it just for the free legal advice and representation.

r3please:

Amicus' Cabin Crew affiliate is Cabin Crew '89. I, and thousands of other crew, would not touch that so-called union with a 1000ft barge-pole. They tend to be in the habit of agreeing to ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that airline management requests and/or imposes and resultantly screw crew over time and time again.

The only airline union to be in in the UK is BASSA (very, very similar to Australias FAAA i.e. extremely strong; don't take ANY crap from management; always negotiate the best terms and conditions etc.), but as this is a British Airways-only crew union the best bet would to be to join their affiliate: The Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU). They are very good, and the best bet to go for. Good luck.

BA Boi,

Thanks for the info. I will look into BASSA and see how many crew they would need to make it worthwhile.

I felt Amicus might be pro company when QF were so quick to recommend them!
