This is a copy of a posting on the main forum. It has been edited for brevity and relevance:
"Investigations into the SQ 006 tragedy have recently shed light on Singapore Airlines rostering and rest periods during crew operating patterns (COPs).
Its been revealed that the captain of flight SQ6 had been rostered less than minimum rest, and that in-fact he was carrying out an illegal duty, as defined by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) requirements.In-fact, further investigations into Singapore Airlines COPs has uncovered several "illegal " duty periods.
Its not clear at the moment what the rest period of the two first officers was prior to the flight. Not been familiar with this pattern, I would assume that one of the first officers was on the same COP as Captain Foong, and the other would have joined the SQ6 flight in Taiwan.
Reports from within Singapore Airlines have confirmed that its becoming increasingly difficult for the company to crew all its services, as COP have had to be changed to allow sufficient rest periods."
End quote. The similarities between CX and SQ in this regard are alarming. Know your legal requirements, and report any requests to waive them to the CAD.
