Extra storage space in hotmail

Seeing that this is the most productive forum around, I thought I would try and contribute something and in the process screw Microsoft around a small little bit.
Its my sad little way of ripping them off for a change!

1:
Log in to hotmail and go into 'Options'

2:
Go to the submenu "my profile' and choose from the dropdown-menu/fill
in the following:
Country: United States
State: Florida
Zipcode: 33332

(make sure the birthdate is set to a date/year which indicates that
you are older than 13!!)

3:
Save the information and go back to the 'Options' screen

4:
Go to the 'Language' submenu

5:
Change the language to 'English' and save that information

6:
Click on this link

If that didn't work try this
http://by17fd.bay17.hotmail.msn.com...in/Accountclose

or this
http://memberservices.passport.net/...ice.srf?lc%2043

and press 'Continue' until you arrive to the 'Close Accounts' screen

Now press 'Close Account' (your account will NOT be lost!! Read the
following steps if you don't believe me )

8:
Now go back to hotmail.com and log in with your old e-mail address and password

9:
Now you will get a message that your 'Reserved Account' has been activated.

DONE!

Your 'Inbox' is now 25mb instead of the former 2mb or the 250mb
You get an e-mail from hotmail.com:


You may notice that your storage meter for your e-mail inbox only says
25 MB instead of 250 MB. Please allow us at least 30 days for us to
bump up your storage to the complete 250 MB.**** It is important to
check your inbox regularly during this time.


This means that you'll have an account for 25mb (still a lot more that
2, right?!) for about 30 days. Microsoft will bump it up to 250mb
after that!

10:

Make sure you'll keep the language, country, etc. settings as they are now.
After /Microsoft/hotmail bumps the 25mb to 250mb, you can change
everything back to as it was (the language you prefer!).

So don't forget to regularly check your Inbox.
And don't forget: This does NOT mean you have an unlimited account!!
Your account will still be subject to deactivation after being idle for 30 days!

My wife uses Hotmail and without doing anything had her inbox suddenly grow to a wopping 250mb. She does use it everyday though.

AFAIK, all (free) Hotmail Accounts have recently been (or soon will be) increased to 250Mb.

Yep, all free Hotmail accounts are being upgraded to 250MB of space. I think they started with the oldest accounts first, but it seems to be pretty random. Mine was upgraded before Christmas, and I opened the account a few years ago.

I've just posted a thread above so please forgive me if you've read that already for forcing it on you again, but it has just occured to me that the reason I can't log in on my computer (which has limited memory available) is due to the massive extra storage space given me by msn? or am I barking up the wrong tree??

I doubt very much wether the size of the Hotmail storage has anything to do with you not being able to sign in to MSN. Possible cause is your use of Windows 95!!
Do the other computers you use also operate Win95?

No, but for the last year or two I never had a problem logging into hotmail ( or msn messenger) or anything else.

Due to windows 95 and /or lack of memory I occasionally can not down load some very large files on line, but the hotmail loggin glitch is a mystery to me, have defragged etc.

Neat trick. He he he works like a charm. Didn't want to wait until MSN increases the inbox-size. Maybe I'm supposed to be last in line....

I have a co.uk hotmail account and all I did to get the 250mb was change the country tab to Australia but kept the address the same, simple and easy.

Do you have all of the latest security updates for Internet Explorer and Windows 95? They may have upgraded Hotmail's security setup and broken Windows 95 compatibility. Have you tried Mozilla FireFox?

I have succeded to update 2 hotmail addresses, but have not managed to upgrade others for the rest of the family. Any suggestions ? please.

Several months ago, I received an email saying that all existing free Hotmail accounts were to be increased in size to 250mb. A few weeks later all four of our family accounts were upgraded, staggered over a few days, but without any action from ourselves.

Gmail is it!!! Get an invite at
this site (http://isnoop.net/gmail/) and you wont have any worries about space in your inbox!! 1GB is plenty!

I mean, its no problem e-mailing files to ourselves to store them on MSN's servers, where we can access them from anywhere; but can we trust them to look after the stuff properly?
