I have an old Toshiba 430 laptop and would like to network it. That means either an ethernet card or possibly a USB card. But the unit is so old that it only supports 16-bit PCMCIA cards, NOT 32-bit cardbus cards.

Can anyone suggest a source which still sells non-cardbus PCMCIA ethernet cards?

I have an IBM "Home and Away" 14.4 modem/Ethernet combo card. I have been unable to make it work with Win95/98. IBM long ago washed its hands of trying to get it to work with those op sys. They supplied a routine to "modify" the card, but it doesn't help me. Has anyone on here succeeded?

I'm in the USA.

Thanks,

I would try to get in touch with an outfit selling second-hand laptops. They often have a supply of older PCMCIA cards too and might just stock one that fits your laptop.

I have a Toshiba 460CDT myself which came with an Olicom GoCard, which combines a 28.8 modem with an ethernet card. Works fine for me (have added a faster modem though) but probably unobtainable through normal channels now!

A quick Google on 'used toshiba laptop' came up with these, amongst others:
http://www.pcmcianetworkcards.com
http://www.notebookmall.com
http://www.laptopkings.com
http://www.usanotebook.com
http://www.laptopoutlet.com

There are probably a lot more out there, good luck!

No help to you, but years ago I used to have a Sharp 486 laptop with a PCMCIA 10 Mb network/28.8 modem card in its slot...

..Until it was nicked at work - along with my nice Fujitsu PCX AMPS phone - while I used a computer in another room.

As much as I'm against corporal punishment I'm tempted to make an exception.

Still, I would have happily forwarded it to you if I still had the $%^&*ing thing.

Thank you Jhieminga, you're a better person than I in finding things with Google.

Those URLs look like a good hint. Also there's a local computer show this weekend and always a seller of used laptops.

Tnx agn
