Why would they do this considering Emirates will be starting their own A340-300 service on the route from March, wouldnt retaining the 777 service have maintainted their competitive egde?

The downgrade seems to be for all of 2005 and perhaps onwards, any one know what KE's startegy is?

I suppose that 'maintaining a competitive edge' means f.all if you can't get enough bums to fill the seats at a price that will see you make a profit. Besides, the 777 is hardly more comfortable than a 332, and I'll wager you a standard 1 Euro the majority of SLF wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.

Let's also not forget that Emirates is driven not purely by economics but also a political decision by Sheikh Al Makhtoum to bring x amount of tourists into the country per year. Swings and carrousels you know.

Maybe they just needed the 777 on another route.

Their CAI service also seems to be downgraded from 2x weekly non-stop 777 service to 2x weekly A332 flights via DXB.

Why this huge drop in capacity to DXB and CAI?
