Much has been written about Bud Day's Vietnam exploits and later history.

Can anyone steer me towards details of an earlier incident, when he made a remarkable escape from a jet flown out of (I think) RAF Weathersfield in about 1956?

Only bits of info from various web sources here: When Bud Day ejected from a burning jet at 300 feet, his parachute didn't open. He landed in trees, which cushioned his fall. No exact date given for the occurence (years 1955 and 1957 quoted) or aircraft type (F-84F or F-100). During the period in question, Day flew both types with the 55th fighter squadron based at RAF Wethersfield.
