I am looking for the latest info if anyone can help in relation to positions with emerald. I have searched the threads on the subject but of course want up to date info. I understand there is a handful of guys in the hold pool and consequently a handful of guys leaving, I have also heard there is a type course starting in Feb but not sure if it was the 748 or shed. I am of course interested in going for the rating in blackpool but unsure if the 748 or 360 is the one to go for. Also I understand that a preference to people living close to a base is helpful, I am Dublin based but have seen company aircraft here-are they based here?. If anyone has any info or contact details of whom I may speak to in relation to their type course I would be very grateful and of knowledge on how opportunities would be for newly rated shed or 748 F/O's would be? Cheers

I completed the type rating ground school for the 748 back in september this year. I was lead to believe that the flying would start 3-4 weeks later but there was a long delay on bringing the ATP's on line- the crews for that and thus the replacements... ourselves.

The delay meant that i did in the end get a job with another airline and didnt complete the 748 rating. I found the ground school a lot of fun and the instructor was very good.

I think they want to keep the 748's for as long as the CAA will certify them. The company ownes them now and they are a good medim weitht freighter.

I'm not sure of the duties, bases for the shorts but the TR is done also at blackpool.

The ATP's are being used for the IOM routes and freight.

Feel free to send me a PM and i will try to answer any other Q's you might have

most 748 crews are LPL based and Shorts crews at Coventry, there is one shorts crew based in Dublin at present, no plans to base anymore there at the moment and they do DUB-CVT-DUB mon to thursday.
Were one of them to leave, and someone wanted to be based there, the company would probably allow it as it saves them hotel bills.
The number of crews moving on to seems to have slowed down recently, not sure why.
Emerald, up till last year, bonded you for a rating but have now gone down the self funded route, and being the only large 748 and SD360 operator left, the rating is only useflu if you work for us.
maybe all those paying for 737/A320 ratings and time on type have stopped the traditional progression from turboprop to jet which is why movement has slowed.
best Wishes

Prices for the 748 and SD360 courses are £10,000 and £8,000 respectively, both done at Blackpool I believe.
