I have distant memories of going to the viewers compound at RAF Northolt in the early 70's. I believe it was off West End Lane. Does anyone know if it is still there or have any photos?

Sorry no photos but remember it well from my few visits from down here on the sunny south coast. I think you'll find it was West End Road, the A4180, and probably off the side road of Wingfield Way. Check out Streemap.co.uk for location. It certainly provide excellent views of the landing traffic on the westerly runway. Aahh those C-54s, Noratlas, Hastings.

The rather limited present-day viewing opportunities are described here:

I used to park up in Sharvel Lane off West End Road near a gun club -good view with bino's.

Also Horsenden Hill was a good place to watch and listen to inbounds.

My mum lived near the airfield in Windsor Avenue (to the SW) at the beginning of the war. She can remember that it wasn't fenced off and one could simply walk across the main road (now the A40) and in to the airfield -she has vivid memories of a plane crashing and burning -she would have been about twelve or thirteen then.
