Prins Bernhard was the husband of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. His funeral was today and as part of the ceremony 3 F-16's from 322 squadron Royal Netherlands Air Force and a Spitfire from the RNAF historic flight performed a "Missing Man" formation over Delft.

The run in to Delft went right over my house. It was a lovely sight and sound.

It was emotinal to see the aircraft flying overhead this morning.

Prins Bernhard loved flying, and was an honorary member of many flying clubs in The Netherlands.

The so called "Missing Man" formation was beautifully done, with the Spitfire pulling up dramatically overhead the Grote Markt in Delft. Very touching and emotional moment. The Spitfire was being flown by generaal-majoor b.d. Berry Macco, one of the last two pilots in the Dutch Airforce who fly the Spitfire. The F-16's are from 322 squadron, Leeuwarden. this squadron was set up on the initiatief of Dutch pilots operating under the RAF. RAF 167 squadron had a Dutch flight created by Prins Bernhard and was renumbered 322 squdrn and equiped with Spitfire Mk 5 at Woodvale in 1942.
