Yet to fly, Jetstar ups flights
Huge demand for seats to Hong Kong prompts extra flight

ONE day after launching ticket sales for its Hong Kong route, Jetstar Asia has added one more daily flight to the destination.

With the addition, Singapore's latest low-cost carrier will offer two flights daily — one leaving early in the morning and one in mid-afternoon — to Hong Kong from Dec 17.

Describing the response to its sales launch as "overwhelmingly successful", Jetstar's chief operating officer Con Korfiatis said: "We knew the response to our launch deals and everyday low fares would be a big hit.

"But we underestimated the demand for some routes, with interest in our launch period flights for the three destinations growing throughout the day, especially for Hong Kong. The opportunity arose for us to add an additional flight to Hong Kong."

The additional flight will leave Singapore at 6.05am. The return flight from Hong Kong will take off at 11.15am.

Since it launched sales on Tuesday, Jetstar Asia has recorded more than 2 million hits on its website.

Limited seats are still available on flights during the promotional one-week launch period.

The twice-daily service will be operated between Dec 17 and Jan 2 to cater to the peak holiday season rush. But from Jan 3, it will be offered only five days a week. The additional morning flight not operating on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Jetstar Asia is a partnership between Australian airline Qantas, Temasek Holdings, and Singaporean businessmen Tony Chew and F F Wong.
