I'm looking at get into flying like alot of people browsing these pages but unlike most I've not got my heart set on the big Shiny Pointy aircraft of the airlines or the even Pointier fast jets of the Millitary. I've done flying training with the RAF in the University Air Squadron environment and I've worked in operations in the civil training environment so I know what I'm letting myself in for in terms of training.

I've got a real desire to go and fly overseas for humanitarian aid agencies or in some sort of relief or charity role. This is just a post to seek out anyone who's done this sort of thing before....

Is there anyone who can offer advice on how to go about making contacts or where the focus of my trining should be? I'm thinking along the standardised lines of a full CPL, IR with the ATPL groundschool so that my training is complete. Does anyone think there's a better way to go about training? Perhaps I'm wrong in going the fixed wing route, is rotary an advantage?

If anyone really has done this sort of flying before I'd also welcome any personal advice on what the risks, dangers, rewards and lifesyle are like....

I think a South African operator operates Be200 King Airs & Fokker F28s for the UN (currently in & around Afghanistan). Also, maybe related but recently seen a Danish Beech 200 in the colours of the UN on a humanitarian flight.

Hi!

These minimums are for captains, which are the minimums for 1st officers? And which kind of license is required(ICAO, FAA, JAA, any)? Because the company is American.
