I run a GPS program called 'Gartrip' and attempted to upgrade it to the latest version. Since then I have had a series of error messages at swithch-on, these are:

'Error loading powrprof.dll. A device attached to the system is not functioning' (This message appears twice)

'The SETUPAPI.DLL file is linked to missing export NTDLL.DLL:NtClose'

If these mesages are cancelled everything seems to work OK. The vendor of Gartrip has suggested an uninstall of his program, this was tried but the error messages remain.

Now getting some flak from Mrs Tone about 'fiddling with things'

Does anyone know what these error massages are and suggest a way of getting rid?

Followed the link and tried it but still get the same messages. I suppose I may need to reinstall Windows to get rid of them. Thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear that. That was one thing I hated about W98 when an install would not go right. WinXP is much more stable and installs, both hardware and software, are almost flawless. If your machine can handle XP the switch would save you a lot of grief.
