Can anyone shed light on why these ranges were named after women; Rose Hearty, Donna Nook and of course Pam Bray? Were they war heroes, celebities or just local girls that aircrew used to shoot their load at :E

Several of these ranges seem to share the same elderly female relative - one "Auntie" Tank...

This is turning into a round of "the late arrivals at the Range Safety Officers' Ball." :D

In the case of Donna Nook, the place was so called before the range (and its preceding decoy and diversion landing field) was established. I've just checked the 1891 OS map, and it's Donna Nook then.

If she was a local girl, she'd have been no spring chicken when the range opened. ;)
