Cancelled Flight

Ok this isn't a rant - I am just curious. Next year in March I was due to go to Malta for an event on the 19th, with the return flight being early hours on the 21st - ok no problem. But I got a phonecall saying that the return flight had been cancelled and it was now early hours on the 20th. Obviously this is cutting it fine as, that said on the 19th is an evening event, say no more. I have cancelled it anyway and will look for something else. I am not the type of person to go on about things, but I was just wondering what would be the cause of this? I will ask the operator but fear a dodgy answer?

Could be any number of reasons really, coming to the end of the winter timetable, change in schedule somewhere down the line, atleast they gave you plenty of notice....

True, I suppose it's worth a call then to at least see if they'll give me an honest answer :=
