View Full Version : DirectCD Driver warning on XP start up.

I having a small problem in that every time I start up I am getting the following warning.

DirectCD. Roxio Inc.
Issue Description: A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system. This driver will be disabled. Please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of Windows. Contact Information: Available Patch: http://www.roxio.com/en/jhtml/xpupdate.jhtml?location=update

The link takes me to a Roxio support page that tells me that DirectCD4 is incompatible with XP and to uninstall it. It goes on to describe a registry edit and the alteration of two files to .old.

Since I have never had DirectCD in this machine, and the registry edit didn't contain the faults they listed (or at least only one down filter entry) and searching the whole machine for the two named files produced a blank I am at a loss to know why I have suddenly started to get this message.

Only recent changes are some McAfee updates, a Windows Media Player WinmusicUK update (perhaps?) and some general cleaning up.

Any help anyone?

Hi Boeing Boy,

See if this (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=294479) helps.

Cheers

Thanks Liam,

I have never had any version of DirectCD installed on my computer let alone versions 4 or 5 so I'm at a loss to know why it's coming up.

I presume that a driver linked to it has been installed via Windows media player or some other program so have inherited it by default.

I use Nero for CD/DVD burning as it came as an OEM addon so I doubt that I've got this bug through them.
