"Roger Wood, spokesman for Luton and District Association for the Control of Aircraft (LADACAN), also labelled reports the airport was planning to expand to 30 million passengers in the future as 'ridiculous'.
He said: "Luton Airport could not expand to take that many passengers in the short term. To be able to do that it would need to expand its runway 1km in Hertfordshire and to do that it would need planning permission from councils which oppose it."
Why do people automatically think runways need to be extended to create more capacity?
The only thing Luton needs is more gates and a parrallel taxiway!
Take Stansted for example. I know it has a much longer runway than Luton, but the aircraft that fly there and contribute to its 16 million passengers a year could quite easily fly to Luton's 7,000ft runway.
