Passengers on British charter airline Excel staged a revolt after the crew revealed that the aircraft would be landing at Gatwick instead of Manchester. The passengers, who were about to fly home from Crete, refused to sit down and fasten their seatbelts when the Captain announced the last minute destination change. The aircraft was grounded at Heraklion for an hour whilst the passengers argued with the crew that the 767 should fly to Manchester as it should have originally done. The airline had offered to provide transport between Gatwick and Manchester but passengers did not agree to this. Eventually the 767 left and landed in Manchester."

Obviously, there are too many dangerous 737s at MAN for the liking of Excel crews.

Why would they suddenly just decide to go to Gatwick? Cover for an aircraft gone tech?

Did this happen about 3-4 weeks ago? I heard them get a message from ATC just south of Paris to contact company and subsequently change their destination to Gatwick.

"The crew had almost reached the end of their allotted flying hours and they were advised to fly directly to their Gatwick base."

Anybody else out there work for a company that cares so much about it's crews' FTLs it would arrange a diversion to keep them legal? Must remember this option next summer....
