View Full Version : Question for Emirates Pilots

I'm considering a move to your Airline from the US. After reading this forum I have a few concerns
It seems there is some hostility towards direct entry Captains from other airlines. Is this a general feeling amongst the pilots?
I read that you no longer get paid to position. Do you position often and not get paid at all? What other duties go against the credit hours?
I read somewhere on this forum that a pilot needs to have office duties?
I have a wife and two children - an 8 year old and a new born. In general, is medical care pretty good for children? Do most of your families enjoy living overseas?

Any information you can would be really appreciated and helpful in making this decision for myself and my family.

BDD,
In general the pilots are not happy about the advent of DECs. However, I think that that most of us are sensible/professional enough to realise that it isn't the DEC's fault, but rather that of the system.

There was a recent review of the Review and we now get paid for positioning. In fact, the new scheme is to be implemented effctive Dec 1st so we never stoped receivng pay for deadheading.

EK's medical plan is excellent. I know many will say otherwise because certain provisions have been eroded over the years. However, in comparsion to many other airlines, the US included, the plan remains in the top tier. Basially if your chidren are seriously ill, the company will send them where ever in the world they need to go to get proper treatment.

Office duties take place on a voluntary basis only.

I have a few complaints like many others but generally my family and I are happy and have no regrets about moving to Dubai.

Hope this helps.

Yardman,

Thank you for the information. I had been very excited about joining Emirates until I read some of the postings. It is easy to get into a grass is greener mentality.
Your post has reenergized me!
Once again thanks for the information and hope to one day see you on-line.

The best thing to do is come and see for yourself. If you make decisions on half the crap written on here you will leave aviation altogether !!
