MORE FLIGHTS BETWEEN CANADA AND MEXICO
OTTAWA - Transport Minister Jean-C. Lapierre today announced that both Air Transat and Zoom Airlines have been granted additional designations to provide service between cities in Canada and Mexico.

"These designations will give Canadians a greater choice of scheduled air services when travelling to Mexico," said Mr. Lapierre. "It is very encouraging to see Canadian carriers continuing to expand scheduled air services internationally."

Air Transat will provide scheduled service between Toronto and Manzanillo, and between Winnipeg and Puerto Vallarta, beginning in November 2004. Zoom plans to begin operating between Ottawa and Puerto Vallarta starting in December 2004.

The designation of Zoom Airlines and Air Transat to provide service to Mexico demonstrates that Canadian air carriers are benefiting from Canada's airline designation policy for scheduled international air services. Under the provisions of Canada's international air transportation policy, all Canadian air carriers may apply to the Minister of Transport for designation to operate scheduled international air services.

Air Transat is a Canadian owned and operated air carrier licensed by the Canadian Transportation Agency. The airline began operating in November 1987, and currently operates seasonal scheduled and charter flights between several Canadian cities and international destinations including Cuba, the Dominican Republic, France, Greece, Hawaii, Mexico and Venezuela.

Zoom is also a Canadian owned and operated air carrier licensed by the Canadian Transportation Agency. The airline began operations in December 2002, and has operated a combination of scheduled and charter services to destinations including Barbados, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Florida, Mexico, and Trinidad and Tobago.
