I read in a magazine recently that 40 years ago a KC-130F Hercules conducted a series of 21 unarrested full stop landings, 21 unassisted take offs and 29 touch and goes from the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier. Apparently it did so at 54,432kg and carried the inscription 'Look Ma, No Hook'.
Anyone know what the LDA/TODA of the carrier is?
It would be an impressive ride...:}

Buckshot.

This was covered a while back on the History & Nostalgia forum.
If I was clever, which I'm not, I'd post you a link. Don't know how to.
Also try looking at www.TheAviationZone.com
There is an article with pics of the Herc. landing on the Forrestal.

Clint.

Edited for spelling.

There are two quicktime videos here (http://www.airandspacemagazine.com/asm/web/site/QT/menu.html) about half way down the page.

Said aircraft is still on active duty. Aircraft is assigned to VMGR 352 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar here in San Diego. The Public Relations types take many of the base tours through it and then show the photo's of it landing on the carrier. This was pre 9/11 so I don't know if its still being done.
