I'm considering a job over at Thomas Cook Airlines, and have been reading up about the history of the airline, when I found a picture for an airline called Peach Air, owned by Caledonian Airways.

Can anyone tell me what this airline was? Why it was launched? What they were like?

Any information appreciated.

They were a part of Caledonian. Think Goldcrest (tour op/broker) had soemthing to do with it as well. Flew Tristars and a 737-200 for a short time. Not sure why they were set-up? Piccy: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/613418/M/ (http://) .

Shouldn't be too worried about not knowing much about them, sure Thomas Cook won't mind. As long as you know the whole Caledonian/Flying Colours - JMC - TCX sure you'll be Ok.

Not part of Caledonian.

The 737s were operated by Sabre and the Tristars by Air Atlanta Icelandic iirc...

(Edit to add.. I should be more precise.. not part of Caledonian, but definitely associated with them...)

...and indeed "Goldcrest' was the call sign.

They used exclusively British cabin crew on the TriStars...nice bunch of folks.

Remember paxing on the L1011's, to/from ACE in '97 IIRC.

Cabin-wise they were a state.

G-CEAP (which I think was the back-up a/c) was the worst...really falling to bits.

Peach is an anagram of cheap. The boys at Goldcrest thought it was funny, thigh slapping eh?

GCEAP is definitely falling to bits. It's the Tristar presently parked northside at Stansted with no engines and not much else remaining either.
