Exam Remarking

Can anyone tell me how to go about getting an ATPL exam paper remarked by the CAA?

I have done a search of these forums and it has been discussed but I could find not an answer. One post mentioned it was explained on the CAA website but a search of that has prooved fruitless.

Any help would be appreciated.

I do believe what a friend of mine had to do was contact the school he was registered with and submit his reguest with them along with the caa fee for a remark which I cannot remember how much that was !! give them a call .. wolfman.

A friend of mine had a re-mark recently and the CAA confirmed that the original marking is done by machine and that re-marks are done manually by hand in case of any erroneous pencil marks that the machine may have picked up that were on the answer sheet!

Well thank god for that! I've just scored 74% in Air Law having passed the 13 others with high 80s and 90s. :uhoh: It was also a particularly smudgy paper (long story). Anyone ever had any success with this or know what the fee is?

On further research it looks like the fee is £21 :rolleyes: and there certainly do seem to be cases where a remark gives a new result.. however it appears this can go down as well as up. Reckon i'll give it a go though.

If you failed an exam, just accept that you probably did'nt study hard enough for that particular exam. The chances of you getting a higher mark through remarking are slim from what I've heard. I studied hard for my exams and passed all fist time with all marks being in the 90's% and not once did i think that my mark would be below 90%, let alone be thinking about re-marking.

Anything is worth a go - so why not. And on the bright side, you're nearly there so if you're not successful the resit will be a piece of cake.

The 96er (is your username a knowing nod to your apparent dyslexia) - You're clearly not very intelligent and have completely missed my point (if it is me that you are referring to).

Are you saying that that even though "not once did i think that my mark would be below 90%" that if a result came back significantly below that you'd rather retake it for £55 than pass it for £21. Why would you retake an exam that you knew you had passed?

Yup - thanks silverknapper. In fact it's not much of set back as i can still get stuck into the CPL on schedule. It's just the £55 and the principle that i know I passed the exam so why i should i have to retake it. Ho hum.. i hope all will be resolved.

mmmmmm, well on my first attempt I got the fantastic and real satisfying fail of 74%. Seemed to be quite a few of these 74% marks if I recall at the time for a lot of people. Just seemed a little odd. Anyhow, I put the paper in for re-marking and the result came back as correct.

Yes I was disappointed and hoped it would come back as a pass but on reflection, I am glad I had to take it again because rather than a pass at 75%, I now got myself an 83% - better for the overall average.

Guys these fails, particularly this close to the pass mark are real frustrating and by all means try and get a remark. But if you can take the opportunity to do even better in a resit then go for it!!

Also happened to me in Performance. First sitting fail 74%, 2nd time 94%.

Good luck to you all, these exams are a tough part of the training and just have to be done. Try to enjoy it is the best thing I found - can make it a bit easier than just believing that its just another exam to pass.

As a teacher once said to me, any score in excess of the pass mark is just wasted effort!

I know where you are coming from as one instructor of mine always said that anything above was a waste of effort, But hey whats wrong with doing the very best you can and feeling proud of yourself? Whay aim for 75% just because that is the pass mark? At school I was always told that if I wanted to pass with a grade C then I should aim for a B and if wanting a B then go for the A.

I had heard in the past that BA were unlikely to look at you if you got less than an average of 85% - don;t know how true this is, just something I heard. So, could always ask them the same, well 75% is a pass, why you want 85%?
