Fault causes Qantas plane to divert
28oct04
A QANTAS plane bound for Queenstown in New Zealand was forced to land in Christchurch today because of faulty landing gear switches.
The flight from Auckland to Queenstown was heading in to land at its destination at about 2pm (1200 AEST) when its pilot noticed a light switch relating to landing gear was malfunctioning.
Although the landing gear was working and the plane could have landed in Queenstown, it was taken to Christchurch because of that airport's superior engineering department, an airline spokesman said.
"It landed without incident," he said.
Passengers waited 45 minutes at Christchurch while the light was repaired.
