Hi,

I can't remember where I heard the rumour, but can anybody throw any light on the fact that BMI are going to fly A330 out of LHR to an African or Asian destination?

Thanks

The recently expanded bilateral between India and the UK is going to yield a considerable increase in travel between the two countries. New cities, such as Bangalore, will be served, with routes to cities such as DEL and BOM being expanded too.

Both bmi and Virgin have expressed an interested in serving BOM, with bmi expressing an interest in flying to BLR.

The one possible blot on bmi's horizon is the difficulty in getting RR powered (or indeed any) A330-200s at short notice; this may favour VS.

Of course, if these two come together and form one airline by then, it won't make a difference ... ;)

I think the plan is for A340 to india with bmi. They say it's not to difficult to pick up the 300 series at relatively short notice.

Virgin have already announced a Mumbai service, details are as follows.

VS 350/351 (opb Airbus 340-300)
LHR d 2010
BOM a 1035+1 d 1520+1
LHR a 2000+1

To commence Feb 2005.

Why would bmi go head to head against VS on Indian routes?

May be its going to be a CODESHARE? Or they'll be merged by Feb.

Just as strange as FlyBe going head to head against bmibaby in BHX, or an airline with 12 planes trying to buy one with 100!

Possible explanation, the world has gone mad.
