Just seen this on Sky News business report but they didn't say which Icelandic company it is. Does anyone know?

Just seen on the news that Air Atlanta are trying to buy easyJet.

Probably exaggerated by Sky News but I've found some info here...

Heard this on the news at noon. (channel 4)
Icelandic co. (un-named) RUMOURED to be involved in EZ takeover. Apparently 18 million shares have traded today already. Thats 3 times the daily average. Then there was a bit of waffle about how they're being hit by the current Oil Crisis.

Well, everyone else is having a go!

Seriously, I thought Stelios was considering a buyback?

What with? On paper, the guy's as rich as Croesus - but only on paper. He's ploughed his personal wealth into his startups.

I have to agree with ramsrc, Ryanair denied the Buzz rumour for a number of weeks and then made an announcement once they entered a stock market open period the day they announced their 3rd Quarter results in February 03. Ryanair Q2 results were due out on November 1st but were moved to November 2nd to facilitate European investors who are on national holiday on November 1st. Seems to me they would only do that if they were expecting a big movement in the share price on the day of the results and did not want to catch European investors off guard and alienate them as shareholders in the future............

I cannot imagine that any regulator would allow RYR/EZE to combine their businesses. To start with they already have a monoplly as defined by the relevant EU regulations at STN, LTN, DUB and that would be extended in any merger. In any event Stelios still controls 41% of EZE and no one could buy the company without his approval. There is no indication that any such thing is likely.

What is much more likely is that EZE is considering going private in order to funs an acquisition without the gaze of the stock market. Jet2/Globespan are obvious opions and they both need greater and more cost effective marketing, which EZE could easily provide.

It is also likely that EZE will be considering a realignment of its Airbus orders. The A319 is already looking to be too small for many LGW routes and some A320's and maybe even A321's are needed there. Acquisitions and amending aircraft orders could be done much more easily by taking the company private.

Why Air Atlanta would wish to but sgares beats me. It is really only an ACMI operator and has no possibility of gaining the approval of Stelios. It would not bring any strengthening of the business.

We shall see.

We have a positive opinion of the EasyJet’s business model and we think that the company has a bright future”.

Unlike those bankers in the city who have mercilessly trashed the shares this past few months:E

Contrary to all rumours, I can categoricallly state that I have no intention of buying a controlling share in Easyjet. My friends all deny interest as well.

So does Branson...................and Chris Tarrant.........and Cherie Blair.................

Now that's enough for a few more rumours!

Looks like the Icelanders have increased their stake to 10.1% this week. Pushing the share price up 4.5 to 151.50.

What does the influx of Icelandic money mean to the employees of Easyjet?

I'm not joking sir

We were chatting about this at work today and all seemed to be under the impression that Air Atlanta had put money into Excel.

Would the Icelanders have the management ability to make a go of Easy? I suspect that they'll find there's a lot more to running Europe's largest short-haul airline than just screwing the staff!

Wizofoz

not joking,

Air Atlanta Iceland own 100% of EXCEL.

The question is, what does Icelandair whant with Eeasy? Is it possible that they whant to gain a majority stake in the company and use it to supply Icelandair with pax to bring across the pond and thus making it the first low-cost airline on the Atlantic? Now that would be a bold move, viking style.

What is for certain, unwiseowl, is that the present management don't have the ability to make a go of easy!!! :E

The speculation is riveting. The truth, however, is that they bought 8 1/2% because they thought the shares were under-valued and are making no moves to buy any more.

End of story I'm afraid.

Well, this is old news Wizofoz. Iceair just bought some more shares. Now they own just over 10%. It is not the end of the story.

Icy - I totally agree. What's more, have you seen what you can do (duty limits, etc) when your aircraft are on the TF- register ???

Watch out eJ guys, the end is nigh !

icy
27th Oct 2004, 09:39
I know that duty limits for Iceair are not the same as for AAI/AAE.
I know because I used to work for AAI and Iceair takes good care of the pilots. No one star hotels.

...oh come on. We're only talking about 10%. Singapore Airlines own 49% of Virgin, and nothing has happened to link the two in the general publics eye.

Icelandair have got no other option but to invest in a company that is Europes low fares airline. They have incedibly limited expansion possibilities and no real ability to do low cost. Maybe this will scare Iceland Express from further expansion.

If they buy some more shares in coming weeks/months something is going to happen. We will have to wait and see.

Read an interesting article in the Sunday Times about Iceland and why its' companies are investing/buying all sorts of stuff. Turns out that the Icelandic pension funds, are either fully funded or over funded, and have to find places to put all the money. This should not be seen as just an airline thing, as it is happening in other sectors as well, Big Food Group, is being pursued by the Vikings as well.

Interesting Fact - population of Iceland - about the same as Nottingham

And what about icelandair protecting its own routes by preventing easyjet from starting into KEF as it is now a major shareholder. At the same time making an investment, two birds with one stone i would say. Clever management??.

unableblahnonsense, as I've only made a few posts you clearly get bored easily. I have no intention of leaving EZY as I like it...the way it is. I don't like what the company council are trying to achieve or their attitude, but that's for another post:hmm:

Won't cost you a penny. Even reverse the charges.

Your statement is totally untrue and you know it so now let's see if you're honourable enough to pick up the phone and make your accusation directly rather than hiding behind a PPrune username.

CC numbers are publicly available.

orangetree,

I understand your feelings only too well! What the pilots of the UK need is a combined work force, unfortunately it wont happen. The next best thing is a group of people, working for different companies, sticking together (BALPA). Again it wont happen. I wish it would but people like yourself make it less than easy. Why dont you tell us what it would take to join. Lets have no argument, the end goal is a fair life for all of us.
