I happened to come across this last night when checking times for my flight to MIA today and trying to trace why BA were (then) expecting a delay.

Does anyone know why this flight was diverted into FLL? WX at MIA? Just idle curiosity on my part.

TIA.

Div to FLL due weather at MIA (hvy thunderstorms etc). Then operated back to MIA after a splash and dash, FLL to MIA airbone time 13 minutes!

Did it in 10 mins on a DC-3 and 9 mins in an Eastern DC-9 in the late 70s.

Thanks, TopBunk. By coincidence, I ran into someone who'd been on the diverted flight, who said that although FLL was bone dry all the time they were there, it looked like the whole of MIA had taken a big bath!
