Hi All

Just wondering what happens now to the Comanche technology as it's 'no longer required'. Is there a split for who can use what? Does it belong to the government or the parties who took part in the development?

(Apologies is this has been 'done to death' in previous threads)

A commercial version of the LHTEC T800-LHT-802 turboshaft, developed for the Comanche, has been selected to power both the contenders for the Unmanned Combat Armed Rotorcraft program. This is the only advanced rotorcraft under development by the U.S. Army. A final selection is to be made any day now.

It is interesting to note that neither of the two remaining finalists use a tail rotor. The Northrop Grumman is an Intermeshing configuration and the Lockheed Martin is a NOTAR.

Thanks Dave

Are you a 'fan' of NOTAR?

I've just done a search and found a load of info on the LHTEC T800-LHT-802, so thanks for the heads-up.

Other technologies being salvaged include Comanche's miniaturized Longbow radar (likely to find its way onto Apache, and possibly ARH); its FBW system (already being touted by BAE for AH-64D Block III); EOSS components such as the image intensification television camera (I2TV); and its integrated communication navigation identification and avionics (ICNIA) system.

The first batch of production 1680shp T800-LHT-802s for the Comanche EMD aircraft were about to be delivered just as the termination order came through. Engine details at www.LHTEC.com (http://www.lhtec.com) and www.Rolls-Royce.com (http://www.rolls-royce.com/defence_aerospace/products/helicopters/t800/default.jsp)

"Are you a 'fan' of NOTAR?"

I prefer configurations where both 'fans' (pun intended) face up, and provide lift. :D

The Comanche technologies were awesome, and will appear in many places. You can't put it back in the box once exposed, which is a marvelous thing. Having worked on Comanche for several years, I promise you its technologies are already spreading through the Sikorsky fleet. The UH-60M and S-92 have many elements in the controls and cockpit, especially, but also in the structure.

Comanche technology will be used on many types of choppers, like this on for instance ....
