Of course I'm sorry to hear that professional aviators have lost their lives - but what is the Mil connection?

The BBC report state that it's a civilian a/c carrying seafood and tractors.

For those that don't often step outside the Military forum there is an ongoing link in Rumours and News here (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=148355).

Even though it is not a military aircraft I'm sure most people will wonder how a B747's tail breaks off. :uhoh:

Facingrear,

Thanks for the information - I know several ex-Military pilots who work for MK and similar outfits; I would not have seen the other thread had you not posted the news here.

MK airlines are the company that had been chartered to fly to the Gulf from UK during the recent conflict. Don't know if they still do the run. There was at least one thread about them at the time.

Wasn't it an MK airlines DC8 that had the half its undercarriage collapse at the end of the runway at the secret Wilts airbase. Good job they had a spare runway.

Absolutely correct although you have failed to report on the follow up to the undercarriage saga. Another frame arrived and landed on the short rwy and accidently popped a tyre mid way down on the roll out. Fortunately, the very experienced crew managed to vacate at the end otherwise 2 DC9s could have blocked all 4 rwys at the UKs only MEDA.

Hmmm - early stack avoided yet again.

However, my thoughts go out to the families of those tragically lost in Canada.
