Hey there, on another post it was mentioned of only 50 new hires next year. How many pilots is there currently and I would figure with brand new aircraft (pax and cargo) that many more would be needed for at least a couple years? Any thoughts?

its annteresting topic for this forum. Where r the ppl..pls give comments on this ( esp. the experts or current pilots).. its a good info for potential recruits (like myself :p)

neways, my opinion is that cathay will need hundreds of pilots if they continue to expand in such a fast pace.... any thoughts anyone??

Ok just rough figures 250 odd per year for the next few years, may be up to 300, 150-200 DE freighter guys, the rest SO's. This number includes 48 cadets per year, but in reality they are getting a lot less.

Basically as quick as they can train them they will hire them.... think new orders total 8 747's 6 330's and 2 777's... say flying 14 hours a day 31 days a month. = 6944 flgiht hours per month, add 5% to that for duty time with a min crew on average of 3 = 21873 man hours per month. Max each person can do prior to going into over time is 84 hrs. Therefore 21873/84 = 260 pilots. This would be an absolute minimum, Not counting leave training retirments etc etc..

So good news guys get updating and get flying turbines. (its not a prereq but will help)

Just wondering if you guys have heard of anything about plans to interview Aussies & Kiwis sometime soon? Or if anyone has been called recently for an interview.

You just missed out there fella. NZ initial interviews were held in July. with the second interviews being held from now until the end of the month ;(

On the up side, they are still expanding so your ship may come in soon

Silberfuchs and Flyingkiwi

I spoke to recruiting, like you suggested.
They did say that they were in the process of revising the recruiting and hiring plan. And that, said plan should be known next week.
Maybe when it is known you can fill in the rest of us.
Not too sure if that will effect myself and the others of us that were told we got through the final interview process and are awaiting a course date.
Hopefully it will only mean a short delay for a course date, and not that we will be treading water in a holding pool.
Any news please fill us in!!!
Thanks

Thanks for your help everyone.
Can only sit and hope that your number comes up i guess.
Does anyone have an idea of course dates for the ones getting 2nd interviews this month and next month? Does this give clues as to when they start interviewing again??

do you know if the high fuel price will affect the recruitment?

Agree, even if the prices go up next year it should be a temp thing, CX got caught last year when it cut back its training, they are still trying to catch up. Anyway it affects all carriers worldwide so theoretically the prices should just start to rise.

I reakon we can kiss good bye to profit share and next years 13th month though

Is anyone in the know able to give us a summary of what the revised plan ended up being.

Thankfully the oil price seems to be settling down a little bit.
