I am sure Sallie would not mind, so I pass on her sad e-mail to all of Diwai’s colleagues.
Diwai was one of those big hearted guys who always seemed to see the good side of everyone and everything.
Just a nice guy.
Saturday 9 October
It is with great sadness that I write to tell you that John Wood - Diwai died yesterday afternoon.
He was diagnosed with stomach cancer a year ago. He has fought a hard battle bravely.
We were married in December 2003. After nearly six months of chemotherapy, we went on a six week honeymoon to Dubai and England. John was well throughout and ate and drank heartily.
On our return at the end of July, John was taken ill and has been in hospital and finally the local hospice for five long weeks. As he said, "I gave it my best shot!"
He does not want a funeral but has asked me to have a party for him.
So wherever you are raise a glass to John and celebrate his life!
Sallie
