Hi there

Within the next six months i am hopefully going to start commercial pilot training. After much consideration i have decided to take the full time modular route at either EFT in the USA or at Prestwick Flight Centre. Whilst there is some information on EFT'S APP training on this site, i have not managed to find much information about Prestwick Flight Centre commercial training.

I would be very grateful if anyone has any information or experience with regards PFC and the quality of their training/aircraft/instructors,etc

Also, if anybody has any info on Glasgow College of Nautical Studies ATPL ground school i would be very grateful. Seems to be great value for what you get.

Any information or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Commercial flight training run by Henry Crone (ex BAe and CAA staff examiner) so you will get trained thoroughly.
Air Charter Scotland is also at the flight centre
Multi training done on Cessna 310....sim coming later in the year contact [email protected] for more info.

Yes, Cougar is off line for a while....C310 is a more professional a/c to do the stuff in, and price it is not much different

Reference Glasgow ATPL ground school I was speaking to a fellow student who said he started his study there and they're using the old CAA syloblus so pass rates aren't very good.

This is second hand info but I would investigate fully before going to Glasgow.

Re the ground school in Glasgow, I got a sample of their notes and wasn't impressed. They are in the process of rewriting them so you would need to check on the progress. They also didn't do much of a selling job on the correspondance course saying that they were still developing parts of it (eg how many study weeks are required, the present plan of 3 or maybe another one).

I went to Bristol.

I am looking at perhaps using Prestwick to convert a Canadian IR (after I do it!), so always intersted in hearing comments from anyone who has done IR training with them

Had a chat with a friend, she mentioned that Prestwick flight centre are cutting back on instructors, using the cessna 310 as the cougar hit somthing taking it off line for a quite while.

She did say that the 310 is very old an in bad shape as very few instruments work and is quite expensive too, so how they can teach on it not sure let alone fly single crew. Perhaps pilot bear has a better understanding.?

But think the best thing you can do is go and have a look around after all it is a lot of money your spending...

EFT is changing the price for the APP from January 2005. The price doesn't include any accommodation nor the groundschool anymore. Something like $575/month + 5000 for the groundschool has to be added to the original price of $54995.

This still gives you a lot for the money right? Here in Europe training can be at a much higher rate than EFT's APP cost. Still, the course doesn't include MCC course which has to be added to the total price too!! :{

Well, regarding the Cougar...it did have a minor prop strike but in the interest of safety it was decided to have the engine shock tested. It will be back shortly.
There are 3 Cessna 310 aircraft all of which are used for charter operations as well as training. These are hard worked operational aircraft and yes they do develop faults occasionally.
Yes, the 310 does do the Radio Clyde Flying eye and ex PFC students have been known to be employed for this.

There is a fourth which will be specifically allocated for training next year.

I worked with some of the Nautical College ground instructors when they were with BAE, including young Mr.Maloney, and I would reccomend them as a most professional bunch.
Henry Crone at CFT is also a professional, again I would recommend him and his atitude.
