fATP - Degree or Diploma?

Hi ALL

Just completed my PPl here in SA and have just been offered a grant to pay for JAA fatpl. The grant will cover 75% of my training up to 18500 euros and I never have to pay a single penny back. YAHOO!!! Only problem is that it has to be a diploma or degree - is an fatpl CPL/Multi IR a degree or diploma??? Any advice, comments suggestions anything on how I can convince them that it is a diploma/degree would be greatly appreciated. Im desperate here as if I dont get this there goes my dream for a good while as I dont have the funds.

All the training and studying to get it probably amounts to that of a degree but it is neither a diploma or a degree. A CPL/IR is a licence/qualification. I suppose you could try and blag it to be something similar but it could prove to be pretty tough. Good luck.

There is that degree in air transport management in London that gives you a JAA CPL/IR, but I suspect that your grant would go towards the university tuition fees but NOT the flying! You might be able to make that fit your particular situation though if you're lucky.

As said, normaly with aviation, you're on your own. Sad but true.

Having done a degree I can say that it take's four years of hard work, whereas a fatpl is one year hard work. I think its more close to a diploma, but your not really comparing like with like.

Very weird to hear that you've been offered a grant without the grant department not knowing what course your doing:hmm:

Ive also done a 4 year degree Fergal20, and speaking for myself, the amount of work done over the four years could have been compacted into 18 months or 2 years. Do you not reckon yours could? I believe the amount of work in an integrated course for example, is similar to that of a degree. If Id have done 9-5 then studied for a couple of hours every night for my degree, I could have done it in at least half the time. Anyway, this is going too far from bl's Q.

Hi ALL!!!!

F**k Tit Boll***ks W*** with that all out of my system now thanks for all the replies. Im desperate here. I've just spent the afternoon trying to come up with a solution to the problem. Maybe if I do a course in something else, they'll give me the grant and then I could start working and earning some money and save like a mad women demented and then do my CPL/Multi IR. The thing is Im not interested in anything else and I cant imagine myself being stuck in an office - done it before and I was ready to slit my wrists (well not quite but you get the point). The thing is Im 23 and the grant will run out after I turn 24 so not much time left. I suppose I could do the air transport management degree in London Met but its the fact Ive only got a year left and have you seen what flying costs in that neck of the woods.
As far as them understanding what Im doing, you might as well be trying to explain to a brick wall what an fATp is. Im so desperate that Ive even looked up what the dictionary's definition of a diploma is: "certificate or document awarded by by a recognised authority as an honour, distinction, LICENCE or privilege. Note word LICENCE a CPL/Multi IR is a licence isnt it.
I rest my case.
