I am not using IE on a regular basis anymore, therefore I post this annoying habit just out of curiousity. On certain sites including pprune, the page does not load and I get the "this page cannot be displayed" message. Upon brief examination I realize that some characters added themselves to the addressbar. Instead of http://www.pprune.org it shows http:///?%20www.pprune.org. Is this just an IE bug or could it be hidden spyware/malware/hoax?

Think you ll find there is a space in between the // and the pprune..., try taking it out using the backspace.

I think malware would put in something that worked, so I'm tending to think it's not that.

%20 is a space, so something, whatever it is, has added /? and a space.

I just typed in http:///? www.pprune.org (note the extra forward slash, query and space) and got exactly what you reported -
http:///?%20www.pprune.org in the address line and Page Cannot Be Displayed message..

How's your keyboard? If it's wireless then there could be an issue with interference from something. Keyboard bounce, or sticky keys, maybe? Have you ever spilled something on it and dried it out? - maybe it's not as fixed as you might have thought:(

Can't think of much else at the mo

hm, interesting... Well, the typed-in address becomes incorrect as soon as IE loads/tries to load the page. I can see the correct address and the status bar below. After a few seconds the address becomes corrupted and the "this page cannot ..." appears.

Let me see if Netscape does the same ...

Hi Squawk,

Try a repair of IE..

Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, then scroll down the list and highlight Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and Internet Tools by clicking once. A button will illuminate under the list saying Add/Remove program. Click on that and then click on the option to Repair, and click OK.

See how you get on with that.

Cheers
