Good Deeds you done while flying....

Spent the afternoon searching for a lost Alzheimer's victim....poor dear walked off to fetch the mail and went missing in the forest. Two and a half hours into the search....we spotted the old gal, mailbox contents in her arms....heading north away from home. The Sheriff's mounted Posse and volunteer ground searchers made the pinch of our wayward soul and returned her home safe.

It was my birthday today....what a present.:ok:

Landed on a remote beach one day as we were tracking coastal back home after a deployment to warn the people camped on the beach that maybe their kids may want to get out of the water due to the 20+ sharks just beyond the line of breakers!! :eek:

They were quite grateful......

During flood releif work a few years back i was tasked to go pick up a Pregnant lady from her flood ravaged farm house in the hills and fly her back to the towns hospital for she was in labour.

i got out to load her in the back seat of the Jetbanger and thought to myself s@#t what if ....in the back seat...gees just hurry up and get her back to the little town hospital which was about a 25min ferry...all her family were there ,husband and other kids crying as they couldnt go...

anyway i got her back so the ambulance could take her straight to the ward....i kept telling her to breath BIG breaths...at least i thought i was saying the right things!!

found out later that she did deliver about 2 hours later....makes you feel good though!

Heading back to Cairns from Cooktown (in Oz) came around a rocky headland definitely at legal altitude (my story and I'm sticking to it :E ) to beat up the beach that I knew was round the bend.


Surprised myself and passenger to spy a couple in state of nakedness involved in some very close encounter on the sand.


My good deed for the day was NOT turning back for a second look.

Robborider. This has nothing to do with good deads, but I had a funny I wanted to share. Many,Many years ago a couple of us were heading back down a river to the Airport to land (Bell 47). low and slow. As we came around a bend we noticed , right in front of us, a couple in a convertable. It was apparent they wanted children. Anyway we flew by ( did not hover) and returned to base laughing.
About an hour later we were still in flight suits headed home. As we pulled up at an intersection in the road, right next to a convertable. You guessed it the happy couple. We just had to wave and give them a thumbs up. I guess the flight suits gave us away as the woman shrank in the seat........

Few months ago on a medevac (flying a plank) , was returning to base field with malaria victim, doctor and nurse in back of plane.
Patient drugged up to the hilt since he was getting a bit wild without his pharmaceuticals.......turns out he wasnt only one getting wild.
Doc was sitting pretty in rear seat with even prettier nurse's head of red hair in lap....ok, so they were married, but still:ok:

Good deed of day....closing curtain and keeping the ride smooth...real smooth:E:}

I took a lovely old lady up for a jolly once, she was 92 years of age fit as a fiddle and had never flown before in her life.. that was nice :)

We have family days, where all our families are invited for fun, games, lunch, and helicopter rides.

Recently we had some younger children on board who must have thought they were at an amusement park. Every time we pitched or rolled there was a loud "wheeee" from the back. Not really a good deed, but we sure made the day of those children.

Also, it made me remember how much fun this job really is.

I took a 75 year old lady and her grandson up for a 20 min scenic flight, and flew over the area where she and all her family lived so the family could see the helicopter.
On the monday after, I got a phone call from the daughter, who had booked the flight, thanking me and saying how happy I had made her mother and the entire family.
That made my week.

Gave Santa Claus a ride once - delivered him to a Hospital Christmas party/BBQ

That was good fun.

Donated an hours flight as a prize for a raffle at my daughter's school. Tee'd up a date and time with the winners - Husband was going to take the trip - saw the R22 and changed his mind. The wife said she'd go. She was about 4 ft tall and 4 feet wide and was absolutely s%@t-scared. (No comments from the Robbo Ridiculers please ;) )

We only went for about five minutes when she turned several shades paler.

"Are you all right?" "Yyyyyyeah"
"Would You rather go back?" "Yyyyyyeah"

OK! Well the thought for a good deed was there.
