Qantas rules out Air NZ alliance appeal
Qantas has decided that it will not appeal against a New Zealand High Court decision stopping it from forming an alliance with Air New Zealand.
The New Zealand High Court has upheld a ruling by the country's competition regulator that an alliance between the two airlines would be anti-competitive.
The ruling found it would lead to higher fares.
Qantas proposed buying a 22.5 per cent stake in Air New Zealand, so that the airlines could cooperate on their flights across the Tasman.
Both airlines are disappointed by the decision.
Qantas says it stands in contrast with the trend of consolidation and mergers in the aviation industry.
The airline will not appeal the decision, saying it needs to move on.
