Does anyone have any news on whether construction has started on a new airport for Monsterrat (MNI), to replace the old one, which was covered by the volcano. The Montserrat Reporter doesn't seem to have anything on this.

Yes. It was due for completion next month. See:

Cathar,

Thanks for that. How much time should be added for inevitable delays? It says completion on 10th October, but there is no mention of a start date for scheduled air services. It doesn't mention the helicopter to ANU either though.

Has a start date of mid-March, with 3-4 flights per day, one via SXM. Runway at 540m looks challenging, if not quite in the same league as SAB!

This should provide much better through connections with the UK than the current helicopter service. One of the conditions for Winair getting the rights was a "minimum" fare of $40 (US). Is that designed to keep daytrippers from ANU away, or are DFID subsidising the route?
