Alitalia , who lost $400million in the last 6 months alone after their staff refused to restructure, has announced an order for 4 777's , 3 767's and 12 Embraer 170/190 aircraft....

Big difference between "announcing an order" (your words) and "hopes to purchase" (the actual words used by Alitalia)... There's lots of things I "hope to purchase" and somewhat less that I've ordered, but less that I've gotten, and even fewer that I've kept...

For certain they need more efficient management, crew and planes.

If they do it all at the same time, they will find themselves in an upward spiral.

Reckon if I was the salesperson I would be passing conkers now . . .

How much chance of a Sale's Bonus are they getting?
